About Roan Parrish
An American writer and storyteller, Roan Parrish is well-known for writing incisive and creative fiction that really gets to the heart of the matter. Focusing largely on romance novels, she delivers her stories in a straightforward and engaging style that’s found an audience worldwide. Many of her books, while being entertaining, also speak to deeper underlying truths, bringing them all to the forefront. Running through every different genre, she’s committed to writing love stories in each one, making her career a highly versatile one.
Creating a real sense of ambiance and atmosphere, she’s a gifted author when it comes to immersing her readers in her work. From her characters to her settings, she makes sure to pay close attention to each and every detail every single step of the way. Letting her work essentially speak for itself, her writing comes alive on the page, effortlessly flowing, capturing the audience’s attention from the outset. Pushing the format in bold new and interesting directions, she really delivers on every level, as she’s become a household name all over the world.
Gaining critical and commercial success both nationally and internationally, she’s managed to set herself apart from other novelists within her field. Not only is this from her versatility as previously mentioned, but it’s also due to her well crafted characters who really inhabit each of her stories. Resonating with the reader deeply, her protagonists have lives of their own, leaving a powerful impression upon the audience. With so much more to come still, she isn’t a writer who’s going to be stopping any time soon either, as there’s a lot more set for release on the horizon.
Early and Personal Life
Growing up with a keen interest in storytelling, Roan Parrish would seek to refine and hone her craft from an early age. Taking much of her inspiration from the world around, she would constantly be putting it back into her work and writing. Dedicating herself to the craft of writing, she would come to establish her own style and voice, really making a name for herself.
Developing her craft as an art-form for much of her life, she’ discovered her own unique niche within the literary industry. Listening to music and cutting hair, she has a range of different interests, all the time looking for her next big idea to write about. Currently living in Philadelphia, she continues to write, as her writing career carries on growing from strength-to-strength.
Writing Career
Publishing her first novel back in 2015, she would make her big literary debut with the romance title ‘In the Middle of Somewhere.’ This book would also become the first in her ‘Middle of Somewhere’ series of similarly themed romance stories. Other series that she’d write would be titled ‘Small Change,’ ‘Riven,’ and ‘Garnet Run,’ which would also largely be romance books.
Roan Parrish would also go on to write several stand-alone romance titles, some of which she’d write alongside fellow writers such as Avon Gale. There would also be her various different contributions to anthologies and compendiums of many novels collected over the years. Establishing a public profile both offline and on, she will carry on writing, as more and more discover her work every day.
Raze
This book would first come out in 2019 on the 2nd of July, and it would be the third in the ‘Riven’ series of romance novels. The story itself is a self-contained romance that doesn’t necessarily need to be read in order, but they’re set in the same world featuring members of the band ‘Riven.’ Coming out through the ‘Loveswept’ publishing imprint, it’s a fun and compelling romance story with a lot to offer.
Building himself up around his sobriety for the last decade, Huey doesn’t mind being alone, as he believes that it may be better that way. That’s when Felix Rainey walks into his bar and his life; a young man in his twenties who seems to be interested in Huey. Trying to make ends meet, Felix is initially intimidated by Huey, believing he would never see anything in a young man like him, but this all soon changes. Will they be able to find each other as the story progresses, can they put the past behind them, and what will become of them both in Raze?
Continuing on from the previous books, this makes the most of what came before, really capturing the essence of the first two titles. It also stands on its own, delivering a well-written story that provides plenty of twists and turns throughout the whole way. The central characters are also engaging, as the reader is fully invested in their relationship and their outcome, rooting for them to the end.
The Holiday Trap
Initially arriving through the ‘Sourcebooks Casablanca’ publishing label back in 2022, this would come out on the 6th of September. A stand-alone title, it would be a fun and engaging romance story with an LGBTQ theme, and would be easy to pick up with its instant accessibility. The book itself is addictive, working as a light-hearted contemporary romance, clearly showing how far Parrish has come as an author.
Looking to discover who she truly is, Greta Russakoff is a lesbian living with her tight-knit family in a small-town in Maine, as they sometimes struggle to understand her. Meanwhile Truman Belvedere hopes to break-away from New Orleans after he discovers his boyfriend actually has a husband and daughter. Organizing a house-swap between Greta and Truman, their mutual friend Ramona offers the both of them a chance to find a new life. Can they both make a go of it in their new surroundings, will they find their ideal partner, and what is going to become of the holiday trap?
It’s a fun story that makes the most of its entertaining premise, taking the reader on a journey, as there’s plenty of twists and turns along the way. Knowing her audience well at this point, Parrish is a clear and confident writer, with the story itself being more than compelling. From its world-building to its characters, nothing is left out, as close attention is paid to every detail from start to finish.

BOOK OF THE MONTH:
How exciting is this? An actual short story collection from Lee Child, stepping outside of the world of Jack Reacher. This is the first non-Reacher short story collection he's written, with 20 crime stories in this. Really looking forward to this one.
