MSNBC is Changing Its Name! What You Need to Know About MS NOW (2025)

Get ready for a major shakeup in the world of television news! A beloved TV station is undergoing a dramatic transformation, and it's got everyone talking.

MSNBC, the well-known cable news channel, is about to undergo a significant rebrand. Starting November 15th, the channel will be known as MS NOW, an acronym that stands for 'My Source for News, Opinion, and the World.' This change marks the final step in MSNBC's split from NBC News and its parent company, Comcast.

In an exclusive interview, Rachel Maddow, a prominent political commentator for MS NOW, shared her thoughts on the name change. Initially, she was 'annoyed' by the decision, but now sees it as an opportunity. Maddow believes it's a chance to reconnect with viewers and remind them of the channel's unique value. 'I'm kind of happy about it,' she said.

But here's where it gets controversial... The name change is part of a larger corporate move. In November 2024, NBCUniversal announced that most of its cable networks, including MSNBC, would be spun off into a new publicly traded company called Versant. This move includes popular channels like Oxygen, E!, USA, SyFy, and CNBC.

And this is the part most people miss... The creation of the new MS NOW logo was influenced by NBCU's decision to keep its iconic peacock symbol within the NBCU family. The new logo, a waving banner with two red stripes, is a bold statement of independence.

Versant CEO Mark Lazarus explained, 'This gives us the opportunity to chart our own path forward, create distinct brand identities, and establish an independent news organization following the spin.'

However, MS NOW's president, Rebecca Kutler, assures viewers that despite the name and logo change, 'who we are and what we do will not.'

The original 'MS' in MSNBC stood for Microsoft, as the channel was a joint venture between NBC News and the tech giant when it launched in 1996. Microsoft divested its stake from the channel in 2005 and from the website in 2012.

MS NOW is investing heavily in its rebranding efforts, with a $20 million marketing campaign to introduce viewers to the new name, according to the New York Times.

So, what do you think about this major TV rebrand? Is it a smart move towards independence, or will viewers struggle to adapt? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below! We'd love to hear your opinions on this exciting development in the world of media.
