A24's upcoming romantic comedy Eternity presents an intriguing hypothetical: what happens when we die? The film follows Joan (Elizabeth Olsen), who must choose between the man she spent her life with (Miles Teller) and her first love (Callum Turner), who died young and has been waiting decades for her. The trailer, now available, teases a captivating story ahead of the movie's release this fall.
The official plot reveals a challenging decision for Joan: "In an afterlife where souls have one week to decide where to spend eternity, Joan is faced with the impossible choice between the man she spent her life with and her first love, who died young and has waited decades for her to arrive." The cast also includes John Early, Olga Merediz, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph, with Olsen, Teller, and Turner leading the way.
Eternity is co-written and directed by Pat Cunnane and David Freyne, with a script that was featured on The Black List, an annual compilation of the best unproduced screenplays. Other notable titles from the list include Him, David O. Russell's upcoming Madden, and Subversion, starring Chris Hemsworth and Lily James. Eternity premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, receiving widespread acclaim and an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film's release date is November 26th, and it joins other late-2025 releases like If I Had Legs I'd Kick You and Marty Supreme, both featuring performances expected to land lead acting nominations throughout the awards season.
